How to Get More Discord Direct Messages?

Evidence suggests that direct messages are an important ranking factor on Discord. This means that the more DMs you get, the more likely you are to be showcased and promoted by Discord itself. But what can you do to get more Discord direct messages if you don’t already have an established and engaged audience?

Pulling in direct messages from server members on Discord calls for a proactive approach. Technically speaking, you can’t force any Discord server member to DM you. Even so, there’s plenty that can be done to encourage people to send more DMs your way. There’s also the option of buying messages from server members, but does it really work?

Whether you want to boost engagement or grow your Discord server, direct messages are essential to building visibility and attracting attention on the platform. They act as a signal to Discord’s algorithm that your server is active, engaging, and worth promoting.

How to Increase Discord Direct Messages?

Enabling direct messages is, of course, the first thing you need to do to get more DMs. After which, it’s a case of doing everything you can to motivate those within your community to send DMs your way. Research has shown how those who receive more DMs on Discord tend to perform much better than those who receive fewer DMs.

A direct message is a ranking factor – aka an indicator of quality and popularity – which the Discord algorithm takes seriously. More is always better, so what should you be doing to ensure you get as many DMs as possible on a consistent basis?

1. Send DMs to Users

First up, you need to get into the habit of leading by example. Don’t wait for people to DM you – make an effort to spend plenty of DMs as regularly as possible.

Not to such an extent as to irritate them with useless spam, but with genuinely meaningful and personalized DMS they’ll be compelled to respond to. More often than not, taking the lead and setting the right example for others to follow work wonders.

2. Respond to All DMs

Likewise, the same can also be said for responding to every DM you receive. Without exception, all DMs deserve a response – irrespective of whether they are positive, negative, or neutral.

Your responsiveness when you receive DMs will play a huge role in determining who bothers reaching out to you in the future. Avoid generic or copy-and-paste responses when replying to DMs – always make an effort to ensure that they are meaningful and relevant.

3. Be Active

Engaging with your Discord server consistently is key to fostering more direct messages. Maintaining an active Discord server presence is crucial for sustaining interest and encouraging interaction. Prolonged periods of silence can deter users, given the fleeting nature of online attention spans.

Remember, attracting initial interest is only part of the equation. To keep users engaged and motivated to DM you, continuous efforts to sustain their interest are vital. Additionally, cultivating an active server environment further enhances the likelihood of receiving direct messages.

4. Welcome New Members

Each time a new member joins your server, reach out to them with a welcome message. Send them a DM expressing your gratitude that they’ve joined, and make them feel as welcome as possible. This is something that almost always results in at least one DM in return but can also pave the way for ongoing and long-term conversations via DMs.

If you receive more members to your server, then there’s a chance to become a Discord partner. Either way, Discord users need to feel they are appreciated when joining new servers, or there’s every chance they’ll take their business elsewhere.

5. Create Polls

Public polls can be great – social media users always respond positively to the opportunity to share their thoughts with the world. Even so, conducting polls and requesting responses privately by way of DMs can be just as effective.

You create a poll on some kind of divisive topic, you ask people to send you their votes as DMs, and you publish the results at a later date. If you can come up with a topic for a poll that compels people to take part, chances are you’ll be looking at a huge wave of DMs in no time.

6. Ask for Feedback and Suggestions

Another great way to stack up plenty of DMs on an ongoing basis is to request direct feedback and recommendations from your audience. Whatever kind of brand or business you run, suggestions on how you can do things better that come directly from your customers can be worth their weight in gold.

This can also be a great way of showing your target audience you’re listening and that you care about what your customers have to say. From time to time, ask your customers directly to DM you with their thoughts and recommendations on how you can improve what you do.

7. Host a Contest

There’s nothing quite like the prospect of a freebie to generate interest and engagement on platforms like Discord. It’s also a seriously simple way to stack up a tonne of DMs. All you need to do is put some kind of prize on the line and let your community know that to be in with a shot of winning it, and they need to send you a DM.

As an added bonus, ask them to spread the word far and wide with their own friends and followers, and that’s most likely what they’ll do.

8. Ask Questions

Asking questions on a more general basis can also be great for stacking up DMs on Discord. There’s limitless scope in terms of the types of questions you can ask, just as long as they are of relevance and value to your customers.

Their preferences regarding a specific product, new products or services they’d like to see introduced, recommendations for improvements to the services you provide – anything that gives them the opportunity to share their thoughts via DMs. Again, make sure you reply to each of the DMs you receive, and chances are you’ll get even more DMs in return.
