How to Get More Google Play Store Reviews & Ratings?

Positive ratings and reviews are a must for mobile apps on Google Play. If you plan on submitting your app or game to the Play Store, you need all the user feedback you can get. The question is – how to get more Google Play Store reviews and ratings starting today? App reviews and ratings are the single most influential factors on Google Play.

Research suggests that at least 90% of people use star ratings to help them choose apps and games. Predominantly positive app ratings present a picture of a legit piece of software that’s worth downloading. By contrast, reports of a predominantly negative user experience send an entirely wrong message.

But this doesn’t mean that a negative review on Google Play is always a bad thing. All reviews across the board can make a huge difference to your store listing. Hence, motivating users to submit reviews – good or bad – is something to prioritize.

How to Get More Reviews & Ratings on Google Play Store?

The importance of embracing all types of Feedback cannot be overstated. A 100% positive rating on Google Play will not prompt users to download your app. To send the right message, you need to strike the right balance between positive and negative reviews.

Each time you receive a negative review, it should be welcomed as a form of constructive criticism—an invaluable opportunity to continuously improve your software. Leaving your app to its own devices is a recipe for disaster. If you really want your app or game to succeed, it needs to be optimized and improved on an ongoing basis.

As for getting more ratings for your store listing, there’s much you can do to motivate Feedback. It takes time to accumulate organic Feedback, but the results more than justify the effort. Here’s a brief overview of the ten most effective tactics for getting more Google Play Store reviews and ratings:

1. Build A Good Product

First up – and most obvious of all – you need a good product, to begin with. You cannot expect people to take the time to check out your software if it’s not worth downloading. On Google Play, app quality is determined by two things – originality and value.

Basically, you need to ensure that every app you make offers something of value to its target audience. It needs to serve a clear and definable purpose of some kind or address an issue. Before launching your app, take the time to carefully consider what it does and how it offers value. Not to mention how it stands out from the crowd by doing something new or different.

2. Keep Improving Our Product

As already touched upon, it is absolutely essential to focus on continuous app improvement. There never has been and never will be such a thing as a flawless app. Bugs, performance issues, and areas for improvement always creep into the equation along the way.

Your job is to take what you have today and continue making it better for tomorrow. Scrutinize and nit-pick on an extreme level, if necessary, in order to find and address issues before your customers find them. Always remember that demonstrating a commitment to continuous improvement is highly reassuring and motivating for prospective downloaders.

3. Encourage Feedback

Also obvious but essential nonetheless, take the time to remind people to share their reviews and opinions. Don’t make the mistake of expecting people to leave Feedback automatically. It’s a proven fact that dissatisfied customers are more likely to leave reviews than their happy counterparts.

Consequently, you need to request feedback from every customer and remind them to leave a rating. Not so often as to become intrusive or annoying, but regularly enough to ensure they do so. Just be careful when it comes to popups, which can quickly transform a happy camper into an infuriated customer.

4. Target Your Most Engaged Users

Chances are, you’ve established a pretty decent database of contact details by now. Past and present customers you know appreciate what you do is pure gold for reviews. Again, it’s a case of taking the initiative and reaching out to them yourself. Rather than simply asking for reviews, emphasize their importance to you.

Let your most engaged users know that their thoughts and opinions are of immense value to you. Get the point across that you are genuinely interested in their thoughts, opinions, and recommendations. The more appreciated they feel their comments are, the more likely they are to share them publicly.

5. Show The Benefits of Their Ratings

This feeds into the earlier point regarding the demonstration of appreciation for leaving reviews. In this instance, you take things a step further by telling them exactly why you need their Feedback. The introduction of new features, new functionalities, new levels, important security patches, and so on – let them know why their thoughts and suggestions matter.

Doing so can be effective as it shows their Feedback isn’t falling on deaf ears. It brings something practical and almost tangible into the exchange, giving the user the feeling they are part of something important.

6. Ask Your Users At The Right Time

What’s the best time to ask users to leave reviews? It’s simple – when they’re in a good mood and enjoying your app. With a game, this could mean including a reminder after a huge victory or level up. With an app, it could be an automatic prompt after they’ve spent at least half an hour of unbroken time using it.

It’s basically a case of pinpointing those moments where you know the user is enjoying your app. Or at least getting plenty of practical use out of it. By contrast, random popups at completely random times can have the opposite of the intended effect.

7. Give Reward For Rating Your App

Speaking of tangible, offering rewards and incentives for ratings is always a good way to go. In fact, a huge proportion of the reviews that make it onto Google Play are incentive-based. With apps and games, there’s limitless scope for potential where rewards are concerned.

Exclusive benefits, special features unlocked, maybe a discount on the price of their next download – all worth considering. The same can also be said for contests and giveaways, where all those who review your apps are entered into a prize draw. Even if the prize is relatively modest in nature, it can be great for greasing the wheels.

8. Do A/B Testing

A/B testing is essentially the technical term for a trial and error approach. You ask for ratings, you include CTAs in your content, and you set up the occasional popup. You then track and monitor their performance, make adjustments to their positioning/frequency and see what happens next. This should form part of your all-around promotional strategy for your app.

Gradually, you work towards the continuous optimization of all aspects of your strategy. Rather than making things up as you go along, A/B testing provides you with the opportunity to see what works and what doesn’t. When using CTAs or popups of any kind, A/B testing should be considered mandatory.

9. Use Social Media

By now, you should be aggressively promoting your apps on as many social media channels as possible. In which case, why not also request reviews and ratings via the same channels? Reach out to your fans and followers with direct requests for their Feedback.

Link them to your apps on Google Play and make it as easy as possible for them to share their thoughts. You can also use social media to send direct messages to your followers, with requests for Feedback. Not to mention, engage with your audience and join the conversation – essential for keeping people interested in what you do.
